Commission
Budgeting for a commissioned piece

Heirloom-quality furniture is worth the investment, since you will not need to replace it. Designing this way demands the use of quality materials, and a deep understanding of the limitations of wood and anticipating how it will move over time. Unfortunately, mass-produced goods inform most of our perceptions of value. Mass-manufactured products use poor-quality materials, and cause harm to the environment when they inevitably deteriorate and must be thrown away. If you have done research on the cost of certain types of furniture with a brief internet search, budget more than the average results you find. The type(s) of materials, the level of detail and sophistication of joinery involved will influence the final price.

Working Drawings/Approving Drawings

Once we have established the basic concept of the piece together and are comfortable with the price range, I will work to bring together all of the specifications we have discussed including the aesthetic direction combined with my own artistic vision, scale, technical aspects of the joinery and anticipated wood movement.

Once we have agreed on a final working drawing a deposit of 50% of the final price will be required to add it to the queue.

Timeline

If lumber must be purchased I will not be able to commence the build immediately since wood must acclimatize to the environment of the shop for a few weeks before being worked. Once the build has begun I will be happy to update you on the progress throughout the build. The balance will be due prior to delivery/pick up of the piece.
